AI Identifies Novel Drug Target for Alzheimer's by Mapping Brain Gene Networks
Researchers at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development, utilizing advanced AI and machine learning, have identified a novel gene (MACF1) and its associated protein network as a potential drug target for Alzheimer's disease. By analyzing large-scale human brain gene expression data, the AI pinpointed MACF1's role in neuronal connectivity and its dysregulation in AD, offering a new avenue for therapeutic intervention beyond amyloid-beta and tau, which have largely failed in clinical trials. This AI-driven approach accelerates the discovery of previously unrecognized disease mechanisms.
